How to Design a Label in 3 Easy Steps
STEP 1
Determine
the Size of the Label(s) That Will Fit Your Needs
Please Contact Us so we can let you know what
die sizes we have in-house to fit your project —ordering
dies in other sizes will incur tooling fees. This will also enable
us to
discuss
whether the labels will be hand
or machine applied; who will be packaging the product, etc.
STEP 2
Design Your Label
We have an In-House Art Department that prepares
artwork to go to press. Our in-house artists can also aid in the design
of simple labels. We can
work from your rough sketch of your label design and your existing logo.
If you need a logo or have a more complicated
label design, we recommend our Professional Designers Network. These
graphic designers are chosen
by Greenbush Tape & Label to offer you the best in design and service.
They are familiar with our printing specifications as well as FDA regulations.
This process is less expensive than hiring an advertising agency, and
also makes it easier to go back and forth with ideas and changes.
STEP 3
Proof Your Label (optional)
In most cases (time permitting), we can send you a digital proof for
your final approval. We recommend leaving enough time for proofing
on a first
run job. Once the proof meets with your approval, we will print and
package your job. We will notify you for pickup or ship to your destination
within
2-3 days of your proof approval.
FDA Requirements for Food and Beverage
Labeling
The items below must be included in your label design in order to comply
with the US Government’s FDA regulations. For more detailed information,
please download the PDF at the top of this page. You can also access
information on food labeling via the FDA’s website at: http://www.cfsan.fda.gov/~dms/flg-toc.html
1.
Name of Company (possibly logo)
2. Name of Product
3. Ingredient List (listed most to least)
4. Net Weight of Contents (fluids and solids are specified differently)
5. Nutritional Information—This information can be given to us or
your designer as text. It will then be set in the proper format and font
size. If you are designing the label(s) yourself, please set aside a minimum
area of 1-1/2" x 3" for this information.
6. Address (city, state and zip code)
7. UPC code (only needed when selling product in large retail markets)—For
filing information call the UPC Council at (937) 435-3870, or log
on to their website at: http://www.uc-council.org
Please Contact
Us with any questions. We are here to make the process
an easy one for you.
